How Is China's Fast-Rising Modular Housing Being Smartly Manufactured

Recently, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning shared a video on overseas social media platforms with the caption: "Unboxing a brand-new apartment shipped from China. Fully prefabricated in a factory and rapidly assembled on-site, it is cost-effective, environmentally friendly, and ready to move into. Welcome to a home made in China."

The Chinese "prefabricated housing" mentioned by Mao Ning, also known as modular construction, has recently been winning growing popularity across international markets.

According to data from China's General Administration of Customs, the export value of China's prefabricated buildings increased from USD 1.472 billion in 2015 to approximately USD 4.339 billion in 2025, nearly tripling over the past decade. In the first quarter of 2026 alone, exports recorded a year-on-year growth rate of 45%. During the first four months of this year, companies exported RMB 1.68 billion worth of modular houses through Shenzhen ports, representing a 19.6% increase year-on-year, reaching more than 150 countries and regions worldwide.

What is modular construction? Think of it as building a house like assembling building blocks.
Modular construction is a building method in which a structure is divided into independent modules that are manufactured in a factory and then transported to the project site for final assembly.
Simply put, ceilings, floors, plumbing and electrical systems, and even bathroom waterproofing layers are completed on factory production lines before being shipped overseas and assembled on-site like building blocks. Unlike traditional construction, where scaffolding, masonry, plastering, and interior finishing are completed sequentially on-site, modular construction enables parallel manufacturing processes in a controlled factory environment. As a result, construction timelines can be reduced by more than 60%.
Every module comes with its own detailed "identity card." The location of every reinforcement bar is precisely positioned, with tolerances controlled down to the millimeter level to ensure accuracy and quality.

As China's Modular Housing Gains Global Popularity, GETO Has Already Delivered Modular Projects Worldwide

In Australia, GETO New Material has successfully delivered numerous modular housing projects, earning recognition from leading developers and government clients. To accelerate delivery while maintaining quality standards, Australian PCA certification agencies conduct factory inspections and quality acceptance throughout the production process, ensuring both product quality and efficient project delivery.
In Singapore, GETO has completed multiple modular residential developments, including projects with up to 2,444 prefabricated units and 91 structural types within a single development. Today, GETO's modular construction solutions have expanded beyond residential housing into diverse applications such as power infrastructure, tourism facilities, and other specialized building sectors.

GETO New Material (SZSE: 300986) is the first A-share listed company in China's green formwork and scaffolding industry and a leading enterprise in its specialized sector.
