Project Location: Genting Highlands, Malaysia
Project Type: Landmark mixed-use high-rise development
GETO Solution: Aluminium Formwork System
Project Overview
IBN Highlands City is located in Genting Highlands, a well-known holiday destination in Southeast Asia. With a total gross floor area of approximately 8,400,000 sq.ft., it is a USD 1 billion landmark commercial project.
Project Characteristics
The building has a height of approximately 345 metres and a distinctive landmark form. The architectural design features curved geometry, left-right mirrored layouts, and special curved surfaces, making the overall structure resemble two flower petals emerging from the mist of Genting Highlands. The building’s exterior and structural relationships are complex. The project includes circular columns, curved beams, and slabs with special angles. Non-standard formwork areas account for a high proportion, placing significant demands on the design accuracy of the formwork system, the fabrication quality of non-standard components, and on-site installation adaptability.
For such a high-rise, non-standard mixed-use project, the challenge of the formwork system is not merely “whether it can shape the concrete”, but rather how to maintain a clear formwork layout logic, accurate component numbering, controllable factory quality, and efficient on-site installation across a large number of non-standard areas. In particular, when curved elements, mirrored structures, and slabs with special angles coexist, the formwork detailing work — if lacking systematic verification — can easily lead to on-site assembly errors, rework, and schedule pressure.

GETO Solution
GETO New Materials provided the aluminium formwork system for this project. To address the curved structures, circular columns, curved beams, and slabs with special angles, GETO carried out customised aluminium formwork design based on the building’s structural characteristics. The formwork layout was optimised using GETO’s in-house intelligent formwork matching tool, “Xiaozhi Formwork Matching”. Before delivery, multiple rounds of smart trial assembly were conducted in the factory to improve the compatibility between the formwork system and the actual site structure.
Through upfront design and trial assembly, GETO transferred as many installation risks associated with the complex non-standard structures as possible to the design and production phases. This enabled on-site construction to proceed smoothly according to formwork numbering, zoning, and installation logic, minimising temporary adjustments on site.

Project Value
The IBN Highlands City project demonstrates GETO’s capability in delivering aluminium formwork solutions for complex overseas landmark buildings. Facing a high-rise structure with curved surfaces, mirrored layouts, and a high proportion of non-standard components, GETO provided a systematic formwork solution for the main structure construction through customised aluminium formwork design, intelligent formwork matching, and pre-delivery trial assembly
