Project Location: Core area of a coastal gateway city in Southeast Asia
Project Type: High‑end hotel + mixed‑use commercial landmark complex (total GFA over 550,000 m²)
GETO Products: Aluminium formwork system (modular design, flexible support system, customised clamping & reinforcement components)
Project Overview
Located in the core area of a coastal gateway city in Southeast Asia, a landmark complex integrating a high‑end hotel and diverse commercial functions is rapidly rising. As the largest and most technically challenging commercial project in the local region, this complex will become a new urban landmark driving regional upgrading. With a total construction area exceeding 550,000 m², the project includes high‑rise towers, ancillary podiums, and underground structures.
Facing complex structural features and high construction requirements, GETO’s formwork system met the stringent demands for precision, flexibility and construction efficiency.
Project Characteristics
- Varying floor heights – The project includes standard floors of 3.6 m and refuge floors of 4.2 m. The single‑floor formwork area exceeds 23,000 m², demanding high adaptability and turnover efficiency.
- Twin towers with a 450 mm expansion joint – The two towers are separated by a 450 mm expansion joint, requiring both construction convenience and structural safety.
- Multiple post‑casting strips – Several post‑casting strips require dedicated formwork and falsework systems to maintain structural stability before concrete reaches design strength.
- Curved architectural form – The overall structure is curved, requiring precise shaping while controlling custom formwork costs.
- Large columns and steel‑reinforced concrete members – Many large columns and steel‑concrete composite members impose special requirements for formwork clamping and tie‑rod detailing.
- Significant differential settlement between floor zones – Different settlement ranges required a unified formwork design baseline and appropriate construction adjustments.

GETO Solution
- Flexible adaptation to varying floor heights – Modular design and adjustable support systems were used to accommodate both 3.6 m and 4.2 m floor heights with a unified formwork configuration, reducing non‑standard inputs.
- Hoisting solution for the expansion joint – The formwork at the expansion joint was designed as a hoisting unit, enabling independent construction of the twin towers while greatly improving on‑site installation efficiency and safety.
- Independent support for post‑casting strips – Dedicated formwork and falsework systems were provided for each post‑casting strip, ensuring structural safety and facilitating later dismantling and turnover.
- “Straight‑to‑curve” arc construction method – By using rectangular panels with angle adjustments using custom panels, arc precision was controlled within 3–4 mm. This preserved the architectural aesthetics while significantly reducing custom formwork costs.
- Large column clamping – The “square‑button clamp” (Fangkou Clamp) was used for column formwork reinforcement, improving construction efficiency and reducing the number of tie rods.
- Tie‑rod solution for steel sections – Nuts were welded onto steel sections, combined with stud and waling reinforcement, meeting the requirement that tie rods should not pass through steel sections while ensuring reliable load transfer.

Project Value
- Benchmark for high‑complexity commercial buildings – As the largest and most difficult commercial project locally, GETO’s formwork system successfully addressed the challenges of curved twin towers, varying floor heights, and multiple post‑casting strips.
- Cost control without compromising aesthetics – The “straight‑to‑curve” method delivered the required curved form while saving significant custom formwork costs, offering an economical solution for similar curved projects.
- Efficiency and safety combined – Innovative practices such as the hoisting joint formwork, square‑button column clamps, and welded nuts on steel sections significantly enhanced on‑site productivity and safety.
- International engineering service capability – This project demonstrates GETO’s ability to deliver systematic formwork solutions for high‑end commercial buildings in Southeast Asia, providing a replicable technical approach for future complex projects in the region.
