Xiamen Strait Exchange Center Hotel Project | 212m Super High‑rise Aluminium Formwork | GETO

Project Location: North side of International Conference & Exhibition Center, eastern Xiamen Island, China
Project Type: Super high‑rise complex (office, commercial, theatre, etc., building height 212.3m)
GETO Products: Aluminium formwork system, supported by proprietary “Industrial Design” system (complex node detailing, construction simulation, MEP coordination, clearance height analysis, etc.)

Project Overview

The Xiamen Strait Exchange Center Hotel Project is located on the north side of the International Conference & Exhibition Center in eastern Xiamen Island and is undertaken by China Construction Third Engineering Bureau. With a total gross floor area of approximately 390,000 m², the project integrates office, commercial and theatre functions and reaches a height of 212.3 metres. GETO helped build this “new landmark of Xiamen Island”, providing aluminium formwork for the main tower and full‑process customised services.

Project Characteristics

  • Frequent changes in tower floor plan geometry – The tower’s plan shape changes with height, demanding high adaptability and dynamic adjustment capability from the aluminium formwork.
  • Complex steel structure nodes – Steel‑concrete composite nodes in the super high‑rise require precise formwork coordination.
  • Full coverage of high‑formwork zones – Aluminium formwork was applied across all high‑formwork areas, making its use an innovative feature of the project.
  • Super high Y‑shaped columns – The most distinctive and difficult‑to‑build feature, imposing extreme requirements on formwork reinforcement, concrete placement, and finishing precision.
  • Variable cross‑sections – Some areas have variable cross‑sections, requiring rapid identification and accurate installation of corresponding formwork.

GETO Solution

  • Efficient standard‑floor aluminium formwork construction – For floor heights of 3.9m and 4.2m, aluminium formwork standard‑floor construction was adopted. Through reasonable process interleaving, construction speed reached as fast as one floor every 5 days, greatly improving productivity.
  • Rainbow panels for variable cross‑sections – For variable cross‑section areas, Rainbow Panels(colour‑differentiated panels) were used to significantly reduce worker time in identifying correct panels, making it easy to verify on‑site compliance with structural changes, improving both efficiency and quality.
  • “Industrial Design” system – GETO’s proprietary “Industrial Design” system was fully applied to detail complex nodes, simulate construction processes, optimise MEP coordination, and perform clearance height analysis, ensuring seamless integration between design and construction.
  • Breakthrough on super high Y‑shaped columns – The construction process for the Y‑shaped columns was optimised. The resulting “Construction process innovation for super high steel‑reinforced concrete Y‑shaped columns” was awarded a Xiamen City QC “Class I” achievement. The “Key construction method for large‑cantilever composite beam‑slab structures with super high Y‑shaped columns” has completed novelty search and is being submitted as a provincial‑level construction method.
  • Full‑process customised services – From detailing to construction coordination, full‑process customised services significantly improved on‑site construction efficiency and precision.

Project Value

  • Efficiency and quality improvement – Standard‑floor construction with 3.9m/4.2m floor heights achieved up to one floor every 5 days. Innovations like Rainbow Panels greatly reduced panel identification time.
  • Technical innovation and industry recognition – The super high Y‑shaped column construction technology received a municipal QC Class I award and is being submitted for provincial‑level recognition, becoming a model case for super high‑rise construction.
  • Green construction – Aluminium formwork is low‑carbon, recyclable, and improves construction safety, injecting sustainable development genes into the landmark project.
  • Landmark significance – Upon completion, the project will become a new landmark in eastern Xiamen Island. GETO’s Industrial Design system and aluminium formwork technology helped create this “new landmark of Xiamen Island”.
